Training & Legal Support Attorney

The American Immigration Council seeks a highly motivated, impact-driven, flexible individual for its Immigration Justice Campaign. This individual will continue the significant momentum and growth the Campaign it has achieved over the past few years and shepherd a large and diverse team forward into the next phase of the Campaign’s development.


The Training & Legal Support Attorney will be a national resource for attorneys engaged in pro bono immigration representation with a focus on affirmative and defensive asylum.


The Attorney will provide mentorship to pro bono attorneys and help the Campaign continue to refine and expand its innovative mentorship models. The Attorney will field inquiries not only on practice and procedure, but also on substantive relief and release strategies. The Attorney will also assist in the preparation of innovative education and training materials under the direction of the Senior Managing Attorney, to best support attorneys providing pro bono legal services at scale (especially for remote representation). The Attorney will play a key role in ensuring that Campaign volunteers and our local partners have the necessary training materials and mentorship to succeed in their cases and to disrupt the deportation machinery. The Attorney will also ensure that the training page of Campaign’s website is up-to-date and remains a leading innovative resource for practitioners in the field who are new to immigration practice.

Essential job functions:

  • Provides individual and group mentorship to Campaign volunteers providing pro bono representation in bond, parole and both affirmative and defensive asylum cases.
  • Develops innovative training materials including practice guides, templates, and webinars for the Campaign network on bond, parole, asylum, removal defense and other relevant topics, under the direction of the Senior Managing Attorney
  • Plays a lead role in reviewing the Campaign’s training webpages to ensure that they are up to date and provide volunteers with the guidance they need to succeed on their cases, under the direction of the Senior Managing Attorney.
  • Helps develop new partnerships with legal service organizations and new types of volunteer opportunities for Campaign volunteers.
