Letters to Colorado, New Jersey, and New Mexico Governors Call for Releases from Detention Amid COVID-19
The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), the American Immigration Council (Council) and local legal service provider partners sent letters to Governors Jared Polis, Phil Murphy, and Michelle Lujan Grisham urging them to take steps to reduce the number of individuals in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody in their states amid the coronavirus outbreak. The letters describe well-documented issues within ICE facilities that make inaction incredibly harmful, and possibly deadly.
