This brief is for an asylum claim by a Guatemalan woman who was subjected to decades of domestic violence from her common-law husband, and whose daugher was subjected to sexual violence from the same perpetrator. The grounds for asylum articulated are various gender-based particular social groups including Guatemalan women, Guatemalan married women, Guatemalan women who are viewed as property by virtue of their status in a domestic relationship and who are unable to leave their domestic relationship, several family-based particular social groups, and political opinion.
